General Sir Mike Jackson: Has he hit the nail on the head?

He complains that the Blair government is using commercial best practice to determine how British soldiers are supplied.

Do you think that Blair, like Thatcher, has used this principle to neocon our whole economy, from education and the NHS to water privatisation and energy?General Sir Mike Jackson: Has he hit the nail on the head?
Of course General Jackson knows what he's talking about, people who say he should have said it when he was serving in the army know nothing of military regulations.

Unfortunately it will be 'water off a ducks back' to Bliar and his cronies who as usual will pretend it never happened.General Sir Mike Jackson: Has he hit the nail on the head?
Sorry, Thomas I am just on way out but another time.

No, none of the above. Mike Jackson is exhibiting a common problem: he's now retired but wishes he wasn't. As soon as you leave these jobs, you are out of the loop. He does not know, cannot know, the exact situation.

I bet he's done wonders for morale among the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, not.
Basically, yes. BTW, if a general said this before he retired, he soon would be retired. Politicians all have to make sure there is plenty left in the pot to finance the big raises they are going to vote for themselves.

Labor has long cut the defense budget when they are in power. So, why should it be any different now? Blair has a basic problem, he wants to be a world power, throwing the British military into every conflict but he does not want to pay for it. So, he does it on the cheap.
Yes.

Soldiers are pawns in the Labour goverments little game of ';Lets be the USA's lap dog';.

He plays a game of being a caring and rightous world leader at the expense of our Troops.

Soldiers are well under paid for the work that they are required to do, their accommodation (both single and married quarters) is little better than slum conditions in most cases.

In addition they are shown little respect by the Tabliod press, which in turn leads to the general population thinking that they are all physco alcoholics.

In reality 99.99% of soldiers are honest hard working loyal men who deserve to be given decent wages, decent accommodation and the respect of everyone. (would you do there job?)

General Mike Jackson has tried his best to do our boys a favor, it will however, fall on deaf ears yet again.

CEDE NULLIS
when mrs thatcher sent our boys to the falklands and the gulf she made sure they had everythink we had to send them with and plenty of it unlike blair who has sent them with no hope or a prayer .what we need to stop from happening is the brair goverment cutting money for the armed forces and giving it to anythink that he think will keep in no.10 untill next year...
Don't agree with snooksvil, although understand his comments but sometimes you need to be a free agent to say these things, as to do so in position, can have a detrimental effect not only on your future but also, more importantly, on those closely associated with you, who may not be taking their ';bowler hat'; for some years. personally, I found his talk impressive and valid, we have been hearing about supply faults etc for our troops for some time. The government policy has always been to be at one remove from their responsibilities, hence the outsourcing of so much in the NHS and other sectors.
In my experience all political parties use the armed services has thier own football, thatcher did with the Falklands ,Blair is doing it now, as a general rule of thumb the labour party is worse in terms of suppling the right kit to get the job done, i can remember not too far back when soldiers were asked to pay for thier own desert boots.

Best practice is another way of saying cheaper. Best practice is to let the army resupply themselves they have more experience than any other market led force will ever have. regards LF
Neocon ? No.

I think the Blair government has tried with limited success to find new ways to pay for public services %26amp; new ways to make them work efficiently. Not all the changes were good, but it seems many of the people who complain about the changes wanted to maintain the status quo %26amp; that's not going to be possible forever.

I would give this government about 6.8 out of 10.
He is spot on. I live in Germany and any US military that go ';down range'; even for 1minute get their pay tax free for the whole month plus extra pay for their dependents left behind. We support our troops with..........nothing
