I think that when reading the work of very brilliant people, we may get the impression that they're agreeing with our innermost feelings, that they have put into memorable prose that which we have never been able to express for ourselves. This can be dangerous. I always put down my Nietzsche with a small shudder, reminding myself that this is the work of a very brilliant but troubled mind and should not be taken as -- well, as gospel.
