Ask afriend to drive a small nail into a piece of wood placed on the top of a pile of books on your head.?

Why doesn't this hurt you?Ask afriend to drive a small nail into a piece of wood placed on the top of a pile of books on your head.?
Because of inertia. The books have a lot of mass so it takes a lot of force to move them.Ask afriend to drive a small nail into a piece of wood placed on the top of a pile of books on your head.?
The kinetic energy that is caused by the driving of the nail is dissipated through the books and never reaches your head.
Books are made of paper and paper tends to compress under pressure thus absorbing the pounding of the hammer.
