What are the advantages and disadvantages of a clipped head or full head framing nail gun?

I could have been ill-informed but I heard that the IRC (international building codes) was going to require round head rather than the clipped head nails we've been using.The reason is that nails with full round heads pull through lumber in catastrophic storms/winds.





I understand the safety concerns but man it's expensive to replace perfectly good guns.





So, if your thinking of buying a gun you should probably get the full head.I'm not sure that a universal gun is being made...yet.
