I was poked in the head by a nail. Its not rusty but I'm not sure what to do. I've had my tetanus shot.?

I was in the attic when I turned and the top (sort of to the right of where my hair is parted) of my head went into a nail. I sat there in pain for a second then quickly pulled it out. When my head hit it, something cracked. I'm not sure if it was my head or the roof. It did bleed some but not too much. I HAVE had my tetanus shot not too long ago. I did tell my mom and she said to look it up. I found nothing helpful. Maybe a Doctor will find this and help. Thank you all who help me. I'm open to all answers. I was poked in the head by a nail. Tetanus vaccines are good for 10 years but if it's been more than 5 years since you had the tetanus booster, you should be okay but may want to get another. If you had one within the past 5 years, you should be fine.

Was your scalp scratched or was it punctured? Keep the wound clean, apply a thin coat of antibiotic ointment twice a day and leave it uncovered. Do this for 5 days. Have your Mom or Dad put the ointment on and check on it each time they put on the ointment. There are other bacterial infections besides tetanus.I was poked in the head by a nail. I would think that as long as you've had your tetanus shot you should be okay. If it starts to look infected, or you get a fever, you should probably seek medical attention. I think that you would probably notice if you cracked your skull, so I doubt you did, but if you are in excruciating pain or anything, you should also probably go to the doctor. Good luck and keep the wound clean!
Since you heard a crack I would go ahead and make an appointment for the doctors just to make sure that you did not do any potentially permanent damage. It's good that it did not bleed much because head wounds usually do. I would treat it like a concussion for now and ice it to prevent swelling.
clean the wound with warm soapy water. ensure the Td was in the last 5 years -if not, get it updated at the local urgent care.
you should be fine...as long as you dont see anything weird oozing out of your head

Go to the doctor! Better SAFE than SORRY!
You are fine. Rust does not cause tetanus. That is just oxidized iron. Tetanus is caused by the spores of a bacteria. Tetanus spores are found in the guts of cows, horses etc. In old days, their poop would be lying around and the nails from the fences that kept them in would fall in the spores and them people would step on them %26amp; get tetanus (this is a short version); so if the nail did not have tetanus spores on it (which are in dirt), you would not get tetanus no matter how rusty--make sense? But if you are up to date, you have nothing to worry about--its why people get the vaccine in the first place. Just watch for infection.
